Finance Officer Job opening at Save the Children

They help them fulfill their potential. Save the Children is working in Nigeria because one in five children in Nigeria dies before their fifth birthday. About 40% of children miss out on school and must have to work to survive while nearly 2 million children have lost one or both parents to an AIDS-related disease.

Role Title: Finance Officer

Location: Gombe State.

Role Responsibilities:

  • This position will be responsible for implementing and/or coordinating financial and compliance support functions for the state office.
  • Ensure that the State Office always has the required cash levels to meet payments requirements
  • Diligently check invoices to be paid and supporting documentation to be aligned with internal policies and procedures, best financial management and accounting practices, donor rules and regulations, and budgets
  • Perform the daily book-keeping, ensuring that the accounting is done in a timely and accurate manner, according to the organizations procedures and principles
  • Perform the monthly accounting closure transactions and controls, and prepare the related reports including Bank Reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation and other necessary activities as clearly stated in the Country office Finance Procedural manual of Save the Children International
  • Support the statutory audit throughout the process
  • Bold self accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, achieving and role modelling Save the Children values
  • Hold the team and partners accountable to deliver on their responsibilities – giving them the freedom to deliver in the best way they see fit, providing the necessary development to improve performance and applying appropriate consequences when results are not achieved.
  • Assist team members, consultants and partners with finance related questions
  • Develop and delivers trainings to ensure new and existing staffs are properly informed of the financial processes of Save the Children International
  • Active member of the procurement committee of the Field Office

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of four years of relevant experience, at the national level, in Finance department of an International NGO
  • A graduate Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint daily usage.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and collaboratively in finding solutions that will benefit the collective
  • Excellent understanding of grants management and financial systems and procedure.
  • Proven experience in a digital environment and knowledge in the use of accounting packages (for example, Agresso)
  • Ability to adjust and work on tight deadlines.
