Role Title: Junior Safety Officer - Logistics
Location: Calabar, Cross River States.
Role Responsibilities:
- Preparation of reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
- Supervising and ensuring compliance to all safety policies
- Expected to conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Inspecting premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
- Supervise installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
- Expected to halt any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Recording and investigating incidents to determine causes and handle worker's compensation claims
- Expected to assist in carrying in-house training about health and safety issues and risks
- Responsible for keeping records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements
- Recording incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers
- Responsible for assisting the Safety officer in charge in the development of safety policies and programs
- Expected to assist in carrying out regular site inspections to check that policies and procedures are being properly implemented
Required Qualifications:
- B.Sc. / BA in Safety Management or any related course
- Hold certification in health and safety program
- At least four years of experience working as a Health and Safety officer
- Must be experienced personnel in the transport and logistics industry.
- Demonstrated experience as safety officer and working with drivers
- Sound knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA / EPA) and procedures
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- Must be experienced in report writing and policies for health and safety
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
- In-depth understanding of MS Office and working knowledge of safety management information systems
