Role Title: Public Information Office

Location: Borno State.



Role Responsibilities:

  • Organize Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) public communications including the development of country-level messaging under the guidance of the Head of Unit
  • Organize common communications actions and campaigns with participation of UN agencies, NGOs and other partners in country/region and co-chair a humanitarian communications group
  • Development and implementation of joint communications strategies in coordination with RC/HC, DHC, HCT and key stakeholders around priority advocacy issues
  • Promote media coverage at local, regional and global levels
  • Organize the Public Information Head of Unit to ensure coherent media strategy and coordinate with RC/HC, HCT and key stakeholders to foster common messaging
  • Support press conferences and moderate if needed
  • Support strategic media coverage of key issues and events, including support for high-level missions
  • Develops and disseminates quality communications material to broaden public awareness of priority humanitarian issues and response and the role of OCHA
  • Produce text-based materials including feature articles, blogs, opinion pieces and explainers
  • Commission quality visual content including photos, photo galleries (with captions), infographics, social-media graphics and films
  • Organize, based on official UN documentation and other sources, initial drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports and books.
  • Development and maintenance of OCHA web platforms and social media initiatives
  • Manage relevant social media accounts at country level
  • Organize engaging social content, including awareness raising campaigns
  • Search for opportunities and innovative ways to continually engage supporters and/or improve perception of aid workers.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in Communication, Journalism, International Relations, Public Administration or any relevant area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively relevant experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is desirable.
  • Proven humanitarian experience in the field in an actual setting where a mission or project is being implemented in emergency situations, complex emergency or natural disaster.
  • Previous experience with crisis communications is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the UN Common System or other international organization is desirable.

Role Title: Planning Manager

Location: Lagos State.



Role Responsibilities:

  • Management and supervision of all terminal planning activities while paying due diligence to safety, quality, productivity and optimum use of staff, equipment and space.
  • Ensure all operations are run in a safely manner, from planning and execution point of view, ensuring Ship, Yard and rail activities are planned and sequenced so to respect stacking and segregation rules, job sequencing, weight restrictions, IMDG regulations, company procedures and group GMR, Port Authority and Harbour master regulations.
  • Manage, motivate and instruct all planning team members. Structure tasks and goals, establish efficient courses of action, set priorities, organize information and efficiently execute daily tasks with considerations achieve agreed productivity levels and efficient utilization of equipment and labour.
  • Endeavor that data quality used in the planning systems always is of highest integrity and maintained in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships and goodwill with departments, external / internal customers and vendors. Advising, apprising, assisting, conferring and counselling with these on terminal issues and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain performance criteria for reporting personnel in conjunction with the Head of Operations.
  • Coordinate the training operator program, with the equipment training coordinators. Also consulting with the direct reporting manager to ensure that the labour force is trained, tested and certified.
  • Development and implementation of strategic initiatives that will prepare the terminal for future initiatives.
  • You are to endeavor that personal development plans are created, reviewed, and carried out for all subordinates.
  • Ensure that daily activities contribute to the achievement of operational results.
  • Continuously contribute to the improvement of existing methodologies, processes and measurements
  • Thoughtfully process implementation of lean Way of Working methodology

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Hold a minimum of a graduate degree in Logistics, Operations Management or process/industrial engineering.
  • A minimum five years relevant experience in container terminal operations environment, with coordination of planning team
  • Understanding of the container shipping industry end-to-end and an ability to relate with the shipping company and other associated industry managers.
  • Excellent knowledge of planning manpower & equipment
  • Extensive understanding of operational processes and TOS (Navis N4 preferred).
  • Excellent knowledge of berth planning, Yard Planning and rail planning process and related documentation.
  • Understanding of vessel stowage planning, vessel, rail and yard operations.
  • Knowledge of accounting, billing, and associated documentation.
  • Proven experience in cost and productivity optimization through process optimization, as well as design and implementation of new operation procedures.
  • Good understanding of modern terminal operations and terminal management systems
  • Excellent knowledge of APM Terminals Operating System
  • Planning and Organizational Skills
